Corduroy is a story about a teddy bear that waits every day for someone to come into the department store and take him home. One day a little girl named Lisa wants to buy him, but her mother points out that he is missing one of the buttons on his overalls. That night he decides to explore the department store in search of a button. He doesn't find a button, but the next day he finds friendship and a home.

my friend and Welcome to our former reading series you're about to listen to a story from our summer reading list this is one of my personal favorites titled corduroy by Don Freeman corduroy is the bear who once lived in the toy department of a big store with all the other animals and dolls for somebody to come along and take him home the store was always filled with shop all sorts of things but no one ever seemed to want a small bear in green overalls then one morning a little girl stopped and looked straight corduroys Bright Eyes she said there's a very fair that I've always wanted not today. Her mother side I spent too much money already be so he doesn't look new to one of his shoulder strap cordray watch them sadly as they walked away I didn't know I'd lost a button he said so himself tonight I'll go and see if I can find it late that evening when all the rappers have gone and the doors were shut and locked corduroy clients carefully down from Michelle and begin searching everywhere for on the floor for his glass button suddenly he felt the floor moving under him quite by accident he had stepped onto an escalator he wondered I think I've always wanted to climb a mountain stop the escalator as it reached the next floor and there I want the most amazing tables and chairs and lamps and sofas and rows and rows of feds this must be a palace I guess I've always wanted to live Palace he wandered around meyering the furniture and he said I've always wanted to sleep in a bed a pea crawls onto a large thick mattress at once he saw something small and round and tried to pick it up but like inside the mattress he yanked and cold with both Paws until the button on the map off the mattress quarter I toppled into a tall floor lamp over it fell with a crash corduroy didn't know it but there was someone else awaken the store the night Watchman was on his rounds on the floor above when he heard the crash she came. escalator in the world did that he explained he must be hiding around here the Flash just like Under and Over the sofas and beds until he came to the biggest bed of all and there he saw to fuzzy brown ears sticking up from under the cover he said how did you get upstairs The Watchmen top quarter right under his arm and carry him down the escalator and set them on the Shelf in the toy department the other animals and dolls Porter I was just waking up when the first customers came into the store in the morning and they're looking at him with a warm smile was the same little girl he only saw the day before I only said she said and you are going to be my very own their last night I counted what I saved in my piggy bank and my mother said I could bring you home shall I put him in a box for you the sales lady asked oh no thank you Lisa answered and she record every home in her arms she ran all the way up four flights of stairs into her family's apartment and straight to her room corduroy blinks there was a chair and a chest of drawers at alongside a girl size bed so the little bed just the right size for him the room was small nothing like that and Palace in the department store this must be home he said I know I've always wanted a home when you sat down and began to sell on his overalls I Like You the Way You Are she said but you'll be more comfortable with your shoulder fat strap fastened you must be a friend said quarter right I've always wanted a friend me too sad Lisa and gave him a big hug BN
