Hello everyone this is Dr. George Solter, Superintendent of the North Bergen School District. Welcome to November! I would like to tell you about some things happening this month.

First, we will be off for election day on Tuesday, November 7th, and also off for the New Jersey teachers' convention on Thursday, November 9th, and Friday, November 10th.

Second, we will celebrate Veterans Day on November 11th, which honors and pays tribute to all military personnel who have served in the United States Armed Forces.  It is a day to reflect on the sacrifices that veterans have made for our country and to express our gratitude for what they have done.   Sometime during the day, please take a moment to reflect and thank all of the men and women who have served in the United States military.   We will address Veterans Day in our classes with discussions, reading assignments, and projects.

Third, we will be celebrating Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 23rd.   Originally, it was a day to give thanks for the past year's blessings, including the harvest.  Today, Thanksgiving is a time for families and friends to come together and celebrate one another. As we celebrate please think of those less fortunate through some acts of kindness.  Our school staff will be collecting items and giving them to those less fortunate as we do each year.

Fourth, in the last week of November, we will have parents' night where we can have discussions about your child’s academic progress. The High School will be on Monday, November 27th and the elementary schools will be on Tuesday, November 28th from 6 PM to 8 PM. The Kindergarten and Pre-K will be at a later date to be announced. Please be reminded that at any time you can schedule a conference or contact your child’s teacher to discuss any questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you at these events.

Lastly, our school choruses will be performing at the uptown North Bergen Winterfest on November 30th. Also on December 5th, Kennedy School, McKinley School, and Franklin School will perform at the Downtown Winterfest. Please look on our website as well as the town's website for more information on times and locations. Winterfest is a great event where all of us get together and celebrate the season.
