Hello everyone, this is Dr. George Solter Superintendent of the North Bergen School District.  We have now been working remotely for seven weeks.  We are in the process of planning for the return to in-person learning.  There are many factors that will need to be addressed as we go through this process.  I would like to address these with you at this time.

First, every parent has the option to have his or her child stay working remotely through virtual instruction.  To do this you the parent must log on to the Realtime parent portal and answer the question concerning remote learning.  If you do not know how to log on the parent portal or you do not know your password please contact the school to get assistance.

Second, we will be slowly bringing the students back.  There will not be a date where the entire population comes back at once.  We will have specific process where grade bands return in each school.  Then will continue to have more students return.  The Reopening Committee will determine that schedule.

Third, will be on a hybrid schedule where Group A will be in-person on Monday and Tuesday, and Group B will be in-person on Thursday and Friday.  All students will be learning virtually when not attending in-person.  Every Wednesday will have virtual learning from 9 AM to 1PM with small group sessions and posted assignments.

Fourth, we will be monitoring the climate to make sure we are not moving to fast.  This includes the number of positive cases in North Bergen, Hudson County, and the Northeast region of the state.  We will make adjustments to the schedule if necessary.

Fifth, all students will be required to wear a mask and follow proper guidelines for social distancing.  Please have conversations with your child about safe practices.

Now I would like to tell you about a few other important items.

Every year we have an open house where you can meet the teachers.  Unfortunately, we cannot do it this year.  So each teacher created a short video to introduce themselves, explain the class rules, set student expectations, give you ways to contact them, and an overview of the curriculum.

Also, we would like to have the students keep the camera on while in virtual classes.  It is important for the teacher to look for visual clues of understanding the material.  If there are any issues please contact the school principal or my office.

Lastly, when you go into the Realtime Parent Portal please update all contact items including phone numbers, email addresses, and review your student contacts.  It is very important to have the correct information.
