Hello everyone, this is Dr. George Solter Superintendent of the North Bergen School District.  We had an unfortunate situation in our school district where an individual student posted a threat based on a nationwide TikTok challenge to shut down schools on Friday, December 17, 2021.  The information was given to the North Bergen Police Department and the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.  Additionally, the North Bergen Board of Education posted a notification on our website.  That same notification was texted and emailed to all parents in our Realtime notification system.  While we did not find this threat credible, we addressed it with appropriate actions for the safety and security of students and staff.

I want to announce at this time, that due to the efforts of the North Bergen Police and the school administration, we have identified a suspect for this posting of the threat and appropriate actions are being taken by the North Bergen Police Department and the North Bergen Board of Education.  Even though we identified a suspect, we will still have enhanced security procedures for Friday, December 17th.  These actions include, but are not limited to, no backpacks, closed lunches, and the use of metal detection wands.  Additionally, we will have extra police presence in the schools.  Threats and posts of violence are always taken seriously.

I want to thank the North Bergen Police Department, the school Administrators, and you the parents.  We will always keep safety and security a priority in our school district.
