Hello, everyone. This is Doctor George Solter, Superintendent of the North Bergen School District. We are now in the month of May and the end of the school year is approaching. I want to update you on several things going on in the district and share some good news about recent and upcoming celebrations.

First, we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Day and Teacher Appreciation Week in May. It is a time to recognize the hard work and dedication of our staff. I like to say we truly appreciate each staff member all year long. Additionally, we recognize the work of our school nurses for what they do and celebrate them on May 10th. A huge thank you to all of our staff members for your efforts.

Second, we had three unused snow emergency days this school year. We will be using two of these days this month and closing schools on May 25th and May 26th. Also, the schools will be closed as scheduled on Monday, May 29th in observance of Memorial Day. Memorial Day is a day to remember service members who have given the greatest sacrifice so we can remain free and enjoy our liberties. So as we enjoy the unofficial first weekend of summer, take some time to reflect and think about those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Third, we will be celebrating Mother’s Day on May 14th. We wish all the moms a very happy Mother’s Day. Take some time to relax and celebrate your day.

Fourth, May is also a time we recognize our students’ excellence with a number of ceremonies. We had our Principals Academic Awards night where we recognized each student who received first honors in marking periods one and two. May 11th we will be inducting our students into the National Honor Society and on May 30th we have our annual Senior Awards ceremony. Congratulations to all of our students who are being recognized.

Lastly, in April's message I spoke about how we keep our schools safe and secure. We are very lucky to have our police in the building to demonstrate a presence to anyone on the outside.
