Hello, everyone, this is Dr. George Solter, Superintendent of the North Bergen School District. We are now in the middle of November and I would like to inform you of some important items as we close out the first marking period on Nov. 18. First marking period report card grades will open on the parent portal on November 22nd at 3 PM.

First, we have scheduled parents’ nights for Monday, November 28th at the High School from 6 PM to 8 PM, and Tuesday, November 29th at our elementary schools for Grades 1 through 8 from 6 PM to 8 PM. The Kindergarten and Pre - K parents nights will be at a later date.  All parent conferences will be in person at the local schools. Please be ready to discuss your child’s academic progress, classroom presence, completion of the required work, and interventions that could help improve your child’s understanding of the curriculum. This night is a chance for you to have these conversations with your child’s teacher(s), but the lines of communication should remain open throughout the school year. You can always contact the teacher(s), guidance counselor, or school administrator if you see any issues.

Second, we celebrated Veterans Day on November 11th. Our staff provided the students with an understanding of what Veterans Day is all about through stories, projects, and interactive media. If you are a veteran we thank you for your service. Also, if you know someone who is a veteran please give them thanks for their commitment to keep us free. Even though we celebrate this once a year we should continue to support all of our armed forces.

Third, we will be celebrating Thanksgiving next week. Each year it is a time to give thanks for what we have and to reflect on that for which we are grateful. Additionally, it is a time for us to give to those who are less fortunate. I would like to wish all parents, students, staff members, and the community a very happy and blessed Thanksgiving.

Lastly, as we move past Thanksgiving and into the Winter season, each of our schools will be performing on Thursday, December 1st at the Winterfest celebration on Bergenline Avenue. Please come out to support all of the students who are in the choir. A schedule of each school’s performance will be on the school and district website. Also, on December 6th, the Kennedy and McKinley School choirs will be performing at the new Recreation/Library Center and the Franklin School choir will be performing at the Nutrition Center on 45th street for the downtown Winterfest.
