Hello everyone this is Doctor George Solter Superintendent of the North Bergen School District.

We have reached the midpoint of September and our school year is off to a great start!  I have two important points of information to tell you about.

First from September 15th to October 15th we will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. We will celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of Americans who came from or their ancestors who came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, as well as Central and South America. Hispanic Heritage Week started in 1968 under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. It is significant because many countries celebrate their independence during this time period. The students will read articles and literature, learn about the many cultures, and create projects that are relevant to this holiday.

Second, we will be having our annual open house next week through a virtual experience for grades 1 thru 12, and in-person for the Kindergarten and Pre-k.  We will post the instructions on our website as well as the teachers giving information on how to log on to the open house. The open house is your chance to meet with your child's teachers and get valuable information. During this open house you should learn how to contact your child's teacher, understand the rules of the classroom, get highlights of the material that will be learned this year, and how to see homework and project assignments. If you need assistance please contact your child's school for help.

Lastly, County Commissioner Vainieri will be having the annual carnival from September 30th to October 10th. There will be three special days October 3rd, 4th, and 5th where students from North Bergen who attend the carnival in their uniform will get a wristband at a reduced price.  Enjoy all of the activities.
