Hello everyone this is Dr. George Solter Superintendent of the North Bergen School District. I want to wish everyone a huge welcome back to the 2022 - 2023 school year. There are some things I would like to inform you about as we start school this Thursday.

First, please be very careful and aware of everyone as you drop your children off for the start of school. Traditionally, during the first few days of school, it may take some time to get your children to the entrance. Let's make sure we are aware of the traffic and respect the security guards and our police officers. The same holds true as we pick our children up at dismissal. If you have any issues please contact the school's principal or contact me at 201-295-2706 or email me at gsolter@northbergen.k12.nj.us.

Second, the State of New Jersey will no longer give free lunch to all students. Therefore, each family needs to complete a lunch request form. These forms are available on our district website.  It is important that each family completes the application to coordinate the lunch and breakfast program. If you need a paper application you can get one at your child’s school or if you need assistance completing the form we will have someone to help you. Additionally, we will have a new Point of Sales procedure for lunches. The instructions will be on our website and we have texted you a link to this information.

Third, please make sure your information is up to date in the Realtime parent portal. We need to make sure the phone numbers are accurate and any contacts who can pick your children up are up to date. If you need any assistance with logging on to the parent portal please contact your child’s school.

Fourth, as we return I want everyone to understand the attendance policy where each student is allowed only 18 absences. The State of New Jersey requires a 90 percent attendance rate. Please monitor and if you have any questions call the attendance officer at your child’s school. It is important for each child to be in school so they can maximize their learning capabilities. You can monitor your child’s attendance on the Realtime parent portal.

Fifth, we will be having an open house in September where each staff member will explain who they are, give backgrounds to their education, how they can be contacted, give you important concepts that will be done during the school year, explain the rules of the class, how homework will be assigned, and projects to be done.  More information will be given at a later date concerning the procedure and date for the open house.

Sixth, the rules for COVID have been adjusted and we have posted Regulation 1648.11 which outlines the quarantine period for any staff or students who test positive for COVID.  All positive cases must quarantine for 5 days, and when no symptoms are exhibited the staff member or student can return with a mask for 5 days after that. No other protocols need to be followed at this time.
