Hello everyone, this is Dr. George Solter, Superintendent of the North Bergen School District. We are now in the month of May and the 2021 - 2022 school year is approaching its completion. I would like to give you some information concerning what is going on in May and our end-of-the-year activities.

First, I would like each of you to visit the parent portal and have conversations with your child’s teacher if there are issues where your child could be behind in the curriculum. We are in the process of setting up summer learning programs. The programs will include remediation for students who did not successfully complete their courses in grades 7 through 12. These summer courses will be held at North Bergen High School, and will focus on specific areas of the curriculum where there are identified deficiencies. In Kindergarten to Grade 4, we will have summer programs specific to each child’s academic needs. Summer programs for these students will be at Kennedy School, Franklin School, and Robert Fulton School. Your student may attend whichever school is more accessible. Also, for Grades 5 and Grade 6 we will have programs in ELA, math, science, and social studies for students who demonstrated academic difficulties. These classes will be at Kennedy School, Franklin School, and North Bergen High School. It is important that we work toward closing the achievement gaps before moving to the next school year.

Second, the graduation schedule has been set for celebrating our students who are moving on to the next chapter in the North Bergen School District and for our high school seniors who will move on to new adventures in post-secondary schools, trade schools, employment, or the armed forces. Our Graduation schedule is posted on the district website. Congratulations to all of the graduates.

Third, we have seen an uptick in positive Covid cases for certain schools. We are in constant communication with the North Bergen Department of Health and when issues arise, we will address them appropriately and we will inform you of our actions. Fourth, we have an unused snow day this year. We will have an early dismissal on Friday, May 27th, celebrate Memorial Day on Monday, May 30th, and use one snow day on Tuesday, May 31st.

Lastly, we commemorate Memorial Day each year when we remember the service members of our armed forces who made the greatest sacrifice. Please take some time this Memorial Day weekend to reflect and give thanks to our fallen service members in the Army, Airforce, Marines, Navy, and the Coast Guard. Because of their sacrifices, we enjoy all of the rights and freedoms that the United States offers.
