A young boy finds a bright and shiny penny that he becomes convinced is a good-luck piece, and indeed the coin does make his wishes come true, but not in the way he expects.

any by Jane O'Connor this is part of the ink stories to make you shriek series The Bad Luck Penny Starrett what's on the ground a penny the penny was so shiny it made me blank oh look a Good Luck Penny I said to my towel then see you believe in that stuff I bent down and picked it up well sort of I said the painting was so shiny I had to squint and it felt in my hand like it really you will see I told Ben this penny is going to bring me Good Luck that night at Center it was like it had a life of its own then Jenny was in the air she almost went Head Over Heels stop chewing Halstead Head Over Heels I was wondering if maybe the penny has maybe it's just got mixed up after dinner I went to my room I took the penny from my pocket it looks different now that's so new and shiny and it didn't feel warm anymore what's going on do they have magic in it the more I thought about it that Penny was magic and I had to be careful how I said my wishes on Friday in the lunchroom we were sitting around trading cards this is Mike Wallace 143 anyone has it been said proudly he passed around a card of doctor dread I got to hold it but only for a second then was scared with get then a cool car I wish I had a doctor dread card I said to myself and I remembered my penny dug down in my pocket and I rubbed it hard for luck at the end of school we got red go home, seven been started shouting I helped them look for the card who was not in this book and it was not in the lunchroom 10 was very upset we walked home together I tried to cheer Ben up one stick of gum I asked and shrugs maybe I dug in my pocket and took out a pack of gum something else go out and I started it it was doctored red card you you took my card then shouted. There I said I thought we were friends then said well if you want it so bad keep it then shove the card in my pocket then he ran down the street I walked home Rachel's almost sick how did the car get in my pocket going on here back at my house so I sat down on this chair gave me the creeps to know carbs in my pocket I dug down I felt it in the penny my throat went all dry I remembered how I wish for a dumpster drink know I had one was it because of the penny the penny looked about a hundred years old now and it felt so cold it's stuck my fingers yes the penny made wishes come true play wanted I was scared I didn't want any more bad luck had to be very careful not to make any more wishes right then my parents came home Mom stole my face and asked what was wrong I said that and I are in a fight mom gave me a hug we just got tickets for a baseball game tonight that should cheer you up I tried to smile I love baseball and it was a good but it was hard to keep on my mind on it I bet then was telling everybody I was a thief all the sudden dad was poking me the ball is coming our way I looked up who's coming Straight Outta for a second I forgot all about my bed day and my bad luck Penny I jumped up from my seat I have never caught a ball in a bowl game now with my chip let me have it I wish the words were out of my mouth before I could stop them oh no I made a wish I was not wrapping my penny so maybe something came at me like a rocket then everything went black the next thing I knew I was lying in bed don't try to move now just wrap dad said Hospital the baseball knocks you out what the doctor says you will be fine now it all came back to me it was a petty again I had to get what would happen next as soon as my family left I got out of bed I feel dizzy and weak my pants were in the closet and come down in the pocket I could tell the penny was in there so whole talk it was freezing cold I went to the window and I threw the pitch black Penny as far as I could the penny sale for the air it seems to get a shiny again I do not know where it landed I hope that some bushes and no one will find it but if you come across a penny penny so shiny makes you blink here is my advice to pick it up the end
