Chrysanthemum is a story about a young mouse named Chrysanthemum who loves her long beautiful name until a girl named Victoria and her friends, tease her about it. This story reminds us about the importance of loving the features that make you unique. Enjoy!

hi friends Welcome to our summer reading Series today we're going to listen to a book from our summer reading list and this is by one of my favorite authors Kevin Henkes and the title of the book is chrysanthemum the day she was born was the happiest day in her parents live she's perfect absolutely said her father and she was she was absolutely perfect her name must be everything she is that her mother must be absolutely perfect that her father and it was Chris anthem of her parents named her chrysanthemums chrysanthemum grew and grew and grew and when she was old enough to appreciate it she loves the it sounded like her mother woke her up she loves Chris Christie chrysanthemum loves the way her name left when it was written with ink on an envelope she loved the way it looked when it was written with icing on her birthday cake and she left the way it looked when she brought her with her fat orange crayon chrysanthemum chrysanthemum chrysanthemum chrysanthemum thought her name was absolutely perfect then she started school on the first day chrysanthemum wore her sunniest dress and her brightest mile she ran the race at chrysanthemum when is the church took roll call it's so long Joe scarcely fits on your name tag said Rita pointing I'm named after my grandmother said Victoria are named after a flower chrysanthemum wilted she did not think her name was absolutely perfect she thought it was absolutely Dreadful the rest of the day was not much better wedding for missus Chad's with 13 letters that's exactly half as many Victoria explained thank you for sharing that with Victoria said mrs. shut now put your head down if I like yours I change it Victoria's bed as the students lined up to go I wish I could. Chrysanthemum miserably welcome home said her mother welcome homes that her father place for me said chrysanthemum too long it's scarcely sits on my name tag and I she said her mother is beautiful and precious and priceless whether it's everything you are said her mother sleep perfect that her father chrysanthemum so much better after her dinner macaroni and cheese with ketchup and an evening filled with hugs and kisses and Parcheesi chrysanthemum dreams her name was Jane it was an absolutely Pleasant dream the next morning chrysanthemum wore her most comfortable jumper she walked to school as lonely as she could she dragged her feet the dirt chrysanthemum chrysanthemum chrysanthemum she wrote she even looks like a flower that Victoria has chrysanthemum enter the playground kicker said Rita pointing let Mel her said Joe chrysanthemum wilted she did not think her name was absolutely perfect she thought it was at solutely Dreadful the rest of the day was not much better during nap time Victoria raised her hand and said a chrysanthemum is the flower it lives in a garden with worms and other dirty things thank you for sharing that with us Victoria said mrs. Chad now put your head down I just cannot believe your name Victoria said as the students lined up to go home neither can I. Chrysanthemum miserably welcome home said her mother welcome home said her father school is no place for me said chrysanthemum they said I even look like a flower they pretended to pick me tell me that her mother they're just jealous and envious and begrudging and discontented and jaundiced said her father who wouldn't be jealous of a name like yours said her mother it's absolutely perfect that her father Chris a trifle better after her favorite dessert chocolate cake with buttercream frosting and another evening filled with her and kisses in Parcheesi that night chrysanthemum dream that she really wants a chrysanthemum she sprouted leaves and petals Victoria picture and pluck the leaves and petals one by one until there was nothing left but scrum Eastham it was the worst nightmare of chrysanthemums life chrysanthemum wore her outfit with seven Pockets the next morning she loaded the pockets with her most prized possessions and her good luck charms chrysanthemum took the longest route possible to school she stopped and stared at each and every flower chrysanthemum chrysanthemum chrysanthemum the flower thing to say that morning the students were introduced to mrs. twinkle the music teacher her voice was like something out of a dream as was everything else about her the students were speechless they thought mrs. Google wasn't absolutely Indescribable wonder they went out of their way to make a nice impression mrs. twinkle led the students in Scales then she assigned roles for the class Musical story with chosen as the dainty fairy queen Rita was chosen as the 50 butterfly princess Joe was chosen as the all-important pixie messenger and chrysanthemum was chosen as the daisy chrysanthemums the daisy chrysanthemums the dancing Joe Rita and Victoria chanted thinking it was wildly funny chrysanthemum wilted she did not her name was absolutely perfect she thought it was absolutely Dreadful so humorous as mrs. twinkle was the answer name is so long said Joe it's scarce that's on her name tag said read a pointing I'm named after my grandmother said Victoria she is named after a flower my name is Long Head misses 20 it is said show my name would scarcely fit on a name tag said mrs. twinkle it said read a pointed and said mrs. twinkle and named after a flower to set Victoria Delphinium twinkle and if my baby is a girl I'm considering chrysanthemum as a name I think it's absolutely perfect chrysanthemum could scarcely be careers she blushed she being she bloomed chrysanthemum chrysanthemum chrysanthemum tell Rita and Victoria looked at chrysanthemum longingly call me Margo the gel Incarnation said Rita pointing my name is lily of the valley said Victoria chrysanthemum new it Pop-A-Lock epilog is apart after the story kind of like the conclusion it's tie things up the class musical was a huge success chrysanthemum look absolutely perfect as a daisy Tori maybe only mistake she completely forgot her lines as the dainty fairy queen chrysanthemum thought it was wildly funny and she giggled throughout the entire Dance of the flowers eventually miss the twinkle gave birth to a puppy baby girl and of course she named her chrysanthemum the end
