Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to share some important updates regarding our instructional approach for the current school year. In previous years, Science and Social Studies in grades Kindergarten through 4th were often integrated into our Math and English Language Arts (ELA) blocks. While this provided a foundation, we recognized that our students deserve more dedicated time to dive deeper into the world around them. We have made a significant shift this year by allocating specific instructional time to these subjects, as we believe they are vital for developing well-rounded, curious, and informed citizens.
By carving out this extra time, we are moving beyond just reading about facts and allowing our curriculum to focus on essential pillars of knowledge. In Social Studies, students are strengthening their Geography and Map Skills by learning to identify their states and their locations within the country and the world. They are also exploring Civics and Community to understand the roles people play within our neighborhoods, alongside lessons on Cultural Awareness, Government and Elections, and the significance of various symbols and monuments.
In Science, we are diving into the Natural World, covering everything from the life cycles of plant life and animal habitats to the complexities of the five senses, climate, and weather patterns. Our exploration extends to the Universe with an introduction to the Solar System, sparking wonder about the planets and stars beyond our Earth. These topics represent just a few of the areas our students are now able to investigate in much greater detail.
The goal of this shift is not just to deliver more information, but to fundamentally change how our students learn. This dedicated time allows for meaningful, hands-on exploration where students act as young scientists and historians, conducting experiments, building models, and engaging in tactile projects. We have found that when students have the time to "do" rather than just "read," their engagement levels skyrocket. By exposing them to these subjects early and in-depth, we hope to ignite a lifelong passion for discovery.
We are thrilled to see the enthusiasm in the classrooms as students transition from their literacy lessons into these dedicated blocks of discovery. We believe that by prioritizing these subjects, we are giving our students the tools they need to understand their history, their environment, and their future.

Nos complace compartir algunas actualizaciones sobre nuestro enfoque de ensenanza para el presente año escolar. En años anteriores, las asignaturas de Ciencias y Estudios Sociales, desde kínder hasta 4.º grado a menudo se integraban dentro de los bloques de Matemáticas y Artes del Lenguaje en Ingles (ELA). Aunque esto brindó una base importante, reconocimos que nuestros estudiantes merecen más tiempo dedicado para explorar y comprender mejor el mundo que los rodea.
Este año hemos realizado un cambio significativo al dedicar tiempo específico de instrucción a estas materias, ya que creemos que son fundamentales para formar estudiantes curiosos, informados, y bien preparados.
Al dedicar este tiempo adicional, vamos más allá de simplemente leer informacion y permitimos que el currículo se enfoque en pilares esenciales del conocimiento. En Estudios Sociales, los estudiantes están fortaleciendo sus habilidades de Geografía y lectura y uso de mapas al aprender a identificar los estados y su ubicacion dentro del país y del mundo. También exploran temas de educacion Cívica y Comunidad, para comprender el papel que desempeñan las persona en nuestros vecindarios, junto con lecciones sobre conciencia cultural, gobierno y elecciones, y la importancia de diversos simbolos y monumentos.
En Ciencias, nos adentramos en el mundo natural, abarcando desde los ciclos de vida de las plantas y los hábitats de los animales hasta las complejidades de los cinco sentidos, el clima y los patrones del tiempo. Nuestra exploración también se extiende al Universo con una introducción al Sistema Solar, lo que despierta la curiosidad por los planetas y las estrellas más allá de la Tierra. Estos temas representan solo algunas de las áreas que nuestros estudiantes ahora pueden explorar con mucho más detalle.
El objetivo de este cambio no es solo proporcionar más información, sino también transformar la forma en que nuestros estudiantes aprenden. Este tiempo dedicado permite una exploración práctica y significativa, donde los estudiantes se convierten en jóvenes científicos e historiadores, realizando experimentos, construyendo maquetas y participando en proyectos practicos. Hemos comprobado que cuando los estudiantes tienen tiempo para "hacer" en lugar de solo "leer", su nivel de participación aumenta significativemente. . Al exponerlos a estos temas desde una edad temprana y con mayor profundidad, esperamos despertar en ellos una pasión por el descubrimiento que dure toda la vida.
Nos emociona ver el entusiasmo en las aulas a medida que los estudiantes pasan de sus clases de lectoescritura a estos bloques dedicados al descubrimiento. Creemos que al priorizar estas materias, brindamos a nuestros estudiantes las herramientas que necesitan para comprender su historia, su entorno y su futuro.
