Superintendent's Message

Parent Message

It is now May, and we are approaching the end of the school year.  I would like to inform you of some important events going on in our schools.

First, we are in the process of taking the New Jersey Student Learning Assessment.  All students in grades 3 to 9 must take an assessment to determine their understanding of the English Language Arts and Math curriculum.  We ask you, the parents, to encourage your children to do their best on this assessment. Also, please make sure they have a good night's sleep and get to school on time. We appreciate your help in this process.

Second, As Memorial Day approaches on Monday, May 26th, I want to take a moment to reflect on the significance of this important national holiday. Memorial Day is a time for us to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces.1 It is a day to express our deepest gratitude for their courage and commitment to defending our freedoms and way of life. Their selfless service has ensured the security and prosperity we enjoy today, and we must instill in our children an understanding of this profound legacy.

In our schools, we will be observing Memorial Day through age-appropriate activities designed to educate our students about its meaning. These may include discussions about patriotism and service, the history of the holiday, creating artwork and writing reflections, and observing moments of silence to pay our respects. We believe it is vital to teach our students the importance of remembrance and to foster a sense of appreciation for the sacrifices made by our heroes. We encourage you to also take some time at home to discuss the meaning of Memorial Day with your children and perhaps participate in local community events honoring our fallen service members.

Third, to all the incredible mothers within our North Bergen school community – the mothers of our wonderful students and the dedicated mothers on our staff – I extend my warmest wishes for a truly Happy Mother's Day. Your unwavering love, support, and tireless efforts are the bedrock of our families and our schools. You nurture, inspire, and empower, making a profound difference in the lives of our children and the strength of our community. May your day be filled with joy, appreciation, and the well-deserved recognition you so richly deserve.

Fourth, as we approach the final stretch of the school year, we must work together to ensure our students remain focused and engaged in their learning. With final exams on the horizon for our high school students and important final projects underway across all grade levels, now is the time for continued dedication to their studies. Simultaneously, as the weather becomes warmer, I want to remind everyone of our district's uniform policies. Maintaining these guidelines helps create a positive and equitable learning environment for all our students. Your partnership in reinforcing both academic focus and adherence to our uniform standards during these final weeks will be greatly appreciated and will help ensure a successful conclusion to the school year for all.

Lastly, I am informing you of a change to our school calendar. Due to the fact that we had no snow days this past winter than originally anticipated, we will now have two additional days off from school. Specifically, schools will be closed on Friday, May 23rd, and Tuesday, May 27th. This extended weekend will provide an opportunity for rest and relaxation as we approach the final weeks of the school year. Please make note of these dates as you plan accordingly.

As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to email me at [email protected]

Thank you,

Dr. George J. Solter Jr.
