REGISTRATION/ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS

GUTTENBERG RESIDENTS: All students residing in Guttenberg must obtain a PERMISSION SLIP from the office of the Guttenberg Superintendent of School located at Anna L. Klein School in Guttenberg.

NORTH BERGEN RESIDENTS: Students under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. If a student’s parents are divorced or separated, proof of custody must be submitted.  Before the admission of any student, the Permanent Record Registration Information must be completed and the following proofs presented and reviewed:

Proof of Age- Birth Certificate

NOTE: Pre-Kindergarten Student Registration: Any pre-school child with educational disabilities shall have available to them a free, appropriate public education upon the attainment of their third birthday. Other pre kindergarten children must be at least 4 years old on or before October 1 of the year they are registered for pre-kindergarten.

Kindergarten Registration: Children must be at least five years of age on or before October 1 of the year they are registered for kindergarten.

First Grade Registration:  A child must be six years of age on or before October 1 of the current school year or be promoted from kindergarten classes in the North Bergen Public School System. The child must have had one (1) year of approved kindergarten experience or be classified by the Child Study Team as qualified for placement in grade one (1). The school in which the child has gained kindergarten experience must recommend promotion.

Proof of Medical Condition:  Proof that a physical examination, all tests including tuberculin, and all immunizations have been obtained and are satisfactory.

Proof of Residency:  Please provide 3 proofs of residency one from each of the categories listed below A, B and C.  While any of the documents mentioned shall be considered, supplying the documents may still necessitate a home visit:

Poof of Identity:   Anyone registering a student must present a photo ID.  If you are not the parent or legal guardian, the person registering the child must have a written parental/guardian authorization and proof of identity of the parent or guardian authorizing the registration.

Transfer Students:  Any student leaving another school with the intent to enter the North Bergen School District MUST have the above proof of residency and a transfer or report card from the prior school.

Affidavit Students:  Students who are residing in North Bergen with someone other than their custodial parent or court appointed guardian MUST have the above proofs, as well as submit an approved or a completed Application for Affidavit Admission Form.

Homeless Students:  Students who are temporarily residing in North Bergen as a result of being made homeless in another municipality because of a catastrophe, disaster, or eviction should be reported immediately to the Schools' Homeless Liaison, Teresa Cabrera 201-295-2829.

THESE REQUIREMENTS CANNOT BE WAIVED EXCEPT WITH THE EXPRESS PERMISSION OF THE CHIEF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR OR HIS DESIGNEE AFTER CONSULTATION WITH THE BOARD ATTORNEY.
