BOARD OF EDUCATION VACANCY

The Position:

The North Bergen Board of Education is seeking a qualified candidate for membership to the Board. The Board, within the powers delegated to it by law, is the policy-making legislative branch of the School District. This term will run until April 15, 2024. The vacancy will then be placed on the ballot at the annual election on or about April 16, 2024, for the unexpired three year term, ending 2027.

Qualifications:

•   Be able to read and write
•   Hold U.S. citizenship
•   Be registered to vote in the District
•   Have no interest in any contract with, or claim against, the Board
•   Not hold office as mayor or member of the municipal governing body
•   Not simultaneously hold two elective offices
•   Not be disqualified from membership for the conviction of certain crimes. (Within 30 days of election or appointment to the board, a member must undergo a criminal history background investigation through the state Department of Education.)
•   Be a resident of the Township of North Bergen for at least one (1) year prior to being appointed (a copy of a current tax bill is acceptable proof)

Letters of application will be accepted through Friday, 06/16/2023, until 4:00pm. The Board of Education will review all qualifying applicants. All nominations, deliberation over the nominations (if any), and the vote for the candidate to fill the vacancy shall be done at a public meeting of the Board.
