Hello everyone, this is Dr. George Solter, Superintendent of the North Bergen School District. I want to talk to you about a few things going on in our school community.

First, in March we celebrated Women's History Month. Mr. Brady, the Supervisor of Social Studies, has given our staff many activities, articles, stories, and projects about influential Women. We also celebrated some of our students for their many achievements. Congratulations to Amanda Pace, a two-time state wrestling champion. Additionally, congratulations to Melanie Soto who claimed a Gold medal at the Jersey City Medical Center/RWJ Barnabas Health STEM Showcase. There are so many other accomplishments that we publish on our website and post in our social media. Great job by all!

Second, March was Colorectal Awareness Month. Regular screening should start at 45 years old. We encourage everyone to talk to their doctor about various screening methods. Have conversations and if you are in a high-risk situation please make sure you see a health professional.

Third, we are approaching the end of the third marking period. Please go on the Realtime parent portal and review your child's status. We want you to have conversations with your child’s teacher if you have any questions. We will be having remediation and enrichment again this summer. Any child who is at risk will be required to attend summer classes. You, the parent, will be contacted to become part of a plan to improve your child’s academic performance. We look forward to working with you to make sure your child is successful.

Fourth, in April we celebrate Earth Day. Dr. Keshishian our Supervisor of Science will be giving our staff activities and literature to discuss concerning the environment. Additionally, Mayor Sacco and County Commissioner Vainieri will be hosting an Earth Day celebration in Braddock Park on April 23rd. We will post the events on our website. Lastly, we will be announcing the graduation dates and times online in a few weeks. We will look to continue our High School and Elementary graduations at Bruins Stadium in Braddock Park. The Pre-K and Kindergarten graduations will be scheduled for the Lincoln Annex.
