Hello, everyone this is Dr. George Solter, Superintendent of the North Bergen School District.  We are now completing the month of May and getting ready to finish the 2020 -2021 school year.  This year has been very trying on our children, teachers, support staff and you the parents.  I would like to personally thank all of you for the hard work that was done to make sure we were able to provide an education to our students.  We are back in-person and our reopening plan is working very well.

Now, I would like to tell you about some things that will be going on in the future.

First, this weekend we will be celebrating Memorial Day.  We have off from school on Monday May 31st as well as Friday May 28th for an unused snow day.  Mr. Brady, our Supervisor of Social Studies, has distributed many activities and documents to learn about the holiday.  As we enjoy the many activities during this holiday weekend, please take some time to remember the many service members who gave the greatest sacrifice for our freedom.

Second, we will give each parent the opportunity to vaccinate their child who qualify based on their age.  A survey will be sent out to you the parents to gather the names of the students to be vaccinated.  Additionally, there will be a mandatory consent form posted on our website that must be completed before the vaccine can be administered.  The North Bergen Department of Health will be giving the vaccines in our schools.  If you need any further information please contact your child’s school.

Third, we will be having all of our graduations at Bruins Stadium in Braddock Park.  Elementary Schools will graduate on Wednesday, June 23rd.  The High School will graduate on Friday, June 25th.  More information on the time and procedures will come from your child’s principal and teachers.

Fourth, we will be having a very robust summer school program this year starting June 30th and running to August 3rd.  There will be programs at Kennedy School, Franklin School, Horace Mann, the Pre-K Center, and North Bergen High School.  In Kindergarten to grade six we will be concentrating on English Language Arts and Math, and the program will be available for all students.  In grades seven to twelve it will be for students who did not demonstrate an understanding of the standards in specific subject classes.  The goal is to better prepare all students for the next school year.  More information will be coming in the next few weeks.

Lastly, we are starting to prepare for our full opening of school for students on September 7th.  More on the opening will come later in June.  I wish everyone good health as we move forward.
