Hello everyone this is Dr. George Solter Superintendent of the North Bergen School District.  I hope this message finds you in good health.  We have been working remotely since the school year began and we are approaching the end of the first marking period.  I have some information concerning student grades, parent teacher conferences, additional programs, and other important issues.

First, report cards will be available on the Parent Portal starting December 2, 2020.  You need to have access to the parent portal with a user name and a password.  If you do not have either one please call your child’s school to get this information.  If you do need a paper report card, please call your child’s school.

Second, in an effort to keep you up to date on all activities, programs, and information, we are asking that you make sure your contacts, phone numbers, and email address in the parent portal of Realtime are accurate.  If you are having any problems, please call the school and someone will assist you with the process.

Third, we will be having parent teacher conferences online this year.  There will be a process for you to set up appointments with the teacher to discuss your child’s progress and areas where improvement may be needed.  If you have any issues with contacting the teacher online, please call the school to set up a phone conference.  We want to make sure we are working together for your child’s success.

Fourth, a letter for your employer stating that our schools are closed can be found on our website on the main page. It is the third topic under News and Announcements. I know a number of phone calls were made to the Board of Education office for this request.  Again if you need additional documentation or have questions please feel free to call your school or email me at gsolter@northbergen.k12.nj.us.

Fifth, please make sure your child is staying up to date with class meetings, assignments, tests, and homework.  All class information is located on the parent portal and Google classroom.

Sixth, if you have not completed an application for the lunch program please do so as soon as possible.  The application is on our website or available at the school when lunches are being distributed.

Seventh, Wednesday mornings are where student are doing independent work assigned by the teachers.  Additionally, each teacher should be working in small groups to help students who are falling behind.  Also, we will be starting Title 1 programs on Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons as well as Saturday mornings for additional help.

Lastly, we are experiencing an uptick in positive cases in North Bergen, New Jersey, and the entire nation.  Please make sure each of you are practicing social distancing, wearing a mask, and washing your hands often.  We want to make sure the rate decreases so we can move toward returning to in-person education.  Governor Murphy required us to plan for our return but, to date, we have had to postpone the start of in-person education twice.  We are now looking for students to return at the start of the third marking period.  More information will be released in December about the process for our hybrid education schedule.
